Subscriptions are the lifeblood of The New York Times. While some sales managers preferred to just throw offers at our readers, I saw an opportunity to present subscribing as something much more than unlimited articles every month: this is your opportunity to support the First Amendment and hold power to account.

I got results, too.

My subscription campaigns helped push The Times past 4 million digital subscribers, “the highest gain in digital subscribers in a quarter since the so-called Trump bump in the fourth quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017 after the presidential election.”
